The project
The SEAWEED2PLANT project aims to develop a nutritive solution from by-products of the algae industry in Portugal, as such contributing positively to the efficiency of resource use, in a circular economy base, and also contributing to the reduction goals for inorganic fertilizers set out in the Green Deal.
The project aims to take advantage of non-compliant biomass from controlled production systems in the high-value seaweed industry in Portugal, to develop a nutrient solution with a view to obtaining an innovative product aimed at the house plant market.
Partner entities
The SEAWEED2PLANT project is the result of a partnership between Generosa and GreenCoLab (Associação Oceano Verde), with the Portuguese companies Algaplus, Necton, and Allmicroalae, indirectly represented.
The project was approved under the Blue Growth Program – EEA Grants Portugal, whose objective is to increase value creation and sustainable growth in the Portuguese blue economy.

As a way of promoting a continuous and balanced strengthening of economic and trade relations, the parties to the EEA Agreement have established a multi-year Financial Mechanism, known as EEA Grants.
The EEA Grants aim to reduce social and economic disparities in Europe and strengthen bilateral relations between these three countries and the beneficiary countries. For the period 2014-2021, a total contribution of €2.8 billion has been agreed upon for 15 beneficiary countries. Portugal will benefit from an amount of 102.7 million euros.
